Measures Taken to Limit Impact of Spiralling Energy Prices

The government has taken steps this week to try to limit the damage done by rapidly increasing energy costs from the war in Iran.

A number of changes were announced yesterday to limit the cost increases to petrol, diesel, and heating fuel.

However, the government has already stressed that these measures will be strictly time-limited, and are currently expected to be removed towards the end of May.

New figures from Eurostat show that 47.3% of the EU electricity generation came from renewable sources in 2025.

Ireland is roughly halfway through the pack, ranking 15th out of the EU-27 countries. However, we were just above the average, with 48.64% of electricity being generated by renewables.
