€1,800 SEAI Grant for Home Solar Panels

Buying solar panels is an expensive addition for any home. But did you know that there is a government grant that can knock a major chunk off the price tag?

The SEAI offers a grant of up to €1,800 for solar panels on any home built and occupied before 2021. This means that the vast majority of homeowners are leaving money on the table if they go solar without the grant.

Read our guide on the rules and application process for the Solar PV grant scheme, and how much you can get.

Monitoring and Controlling Solar Panels from Your Phone

Solar panels will sit on your roof, churning out electricity, without needing your input. But how can you tell if they are operating at their best, or tell them what you want to do with the power they make?

Solar monitoring systems are designed to allow you to tell how much electricity your solar panels are making, and compare that with how much you are using.

They can also alert you to any issues that have cropped up, control battery charging and discharging, solar EV charging, and exporting unused power.

How Insulating Old Floors Can Make Your Home More Comfortable

If you live in an older home with suspended timber floors, or even many concrete floor homes, then they may not have any insulation installed.

This mightn’t seem like a big deal, but up to 10% of your home’s heat can escape through an uninsulated floor, while drafts can also rob your home of comfort.

Read our guide on floor insulation to start asking if you need it, how it is installed, and how it can benefit you.

That’s it for this week. If you want to learn more about how you can save more in your home while living more sustainably, then keep an eye out for our next edition.
